Somerset College is looking for two vibrant and energetic Christian Boarding House Assistants to join the Chaplaincy team in our Boys’ and Girls’ Boarding Houses respectively. The Boarding House Assistant is a key member of the boarding team, supporting the delivery of pastoral care to the school’s boarders. The role requires an approachable, positive and warm person who is available to all boarders and who can work well with all stakeholders. Working as part of a team of residential staff, the successful candidates will be responsible for assisting in the managing of Founders (girls) or Vineyard (boys) House and have spiritual oversight of both Houses in conjunction with the Chaplain and Heads of Boarding. The post is a residential non-teaching role that may include some extramural activities.
Chaplaincy responsibilities
- Work under the Chaplain’s guidance to provide spiritual oversight of the Boarding Houses and provide regular points of contact with students.
- Organise and run weekly Youth evenings.
General Boarding House responsibilities
- Report to the Heads of Boarding and provide pastoral care for, and supervision of, students in the House.
- Be on duty some weekly afternoons and evenings and one weekend (Friday to Sunday) per month.
- Adhere to the principles of discretion and confidentiality.
- Be a strong presence in the Boarding House communal area during nominated hours of duty.
- Assist in maintaining high standards of behaviour.
- Support, promote and implement House policies and procedures.
A valid driver’s licence is essential.
