Teacher Intern: Inclusive Education
This internship offers an excellent opportunity for a young individual who is passionate about inclusive education and eager to make a meaningful impact in the lives of pupils with barriers to learning. It provides hands-on experience within a dynamic educational environment steeped in tradition, character, and academic rigour.
What We Offer
This immersive internship provides:
- Mentorship
Work closely with the Head of Inclusion and the broader inclusion team, receiving guidance and support throughout your journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer educational assessments (e.g., Edinburgh Reading Assessments);
- assist with IEB accommodation applications;
- provide weekly literacy support to Grade 8 pupils;
- manage the junior separate venue for cycle tests and examinations;
- collaborate with the inclusion team to support pupils from Grade 8 to Grade 12;
- observe pupils in the classroom and offer support to both teachers and pupils.
- Professional Teaching Experience
Co-teaching either of your majors, as well as exposure to the IEB curriculum.
- Pastoral Involvement
Contribute to the wellbeing of our boys through boarding house duties, sanatorium support, library supervision, and prep assistance.
- Sporting Excellence
Coach and mentor in key sporting codes including rugby, water polo, hockey, cricket or basketball.
- Cultural and Leadership Development
Engage in electives, clubs, leadership camps, and community outreach programmes.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for an individual who:
- Has completed a B.Ed (GET/FET phase) and is registered for part-time postgraduate studies in Inclusive Education for 2026;
- possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- is passionate about inclusive education and supporting students with barriers to learning;
- is committed to a career in education and the values of boys’ boarding school life.
Programme Details
- Fixed-term, one-year contract (renewable annually);
- accommodation provided on our heritage-rich campus near Durban;
- male interns reside in single rooms within the boarding houses;
- full board: Three meals daily and laundry service during term time;
- annual study allowance and paid study leave;
- access to campus gym and sports facilities.
