Purpose of Role
SPARK Schools PE coaches drive student achievement by overseeing the culture and effectiveness of physical education. They work directly with students in outdoor spaces to promote health and wellness and contribute to a high‑quality, engaging PE programme aligned to the network curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
Culture & Class Management
- Create a positive student culture around physical education and maintain high behavioural expectations.
- Apply SPARK culture and behaviour management practices and the SPARK SEL curriculum.
- Supervise scholars during morning arrivals and support class transitions.
Delivery & Curriculum
- Actively coach students in gross motor skills, team habits, and sport-specific skills.
- Plan lesson content aligned to the network PE curriculum and tailor for individual students.
- Plan strategies to extend content and outcomes during the academic year.
- Teach healthy eating, exercise, and hygiene habits, including home‑school consistency.
Collaboration & Administration
- Work with grade level teachers to supervise scholars on paper tasks or online tasks.
- Take responsibility for PE equipment and report any damage.
- Communicate professionally with school staff and parents regarding students.
- Attend staff development opportunities and act in a professional manner at SPARK events.
Professional Development
- Engage in ongoing professional development and mentorship opportunities provided by SPARK.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- Studying towards a degree in Human Movement/Sport Science.
- English language fluency.
- Clear criminal record.
- SACE registration.
Experience
- Previous experience with primary school‑aged children.
- Physical Education experience or training.
