Purpose of the Role

The Head of Sport oversees the management and coordination of all sporting activities across the Preparatory School. The role includes budgeting, staff recruitment and supervision, coaching, distance and event planning, and securing funding and equipment for sport programmes. The post-holder will also drive school sport culture, inter-house activities, and recognition through awards.


Key Responsibilities

Administration

  • Manage Sporting and Physical Education budgets
  • Purchasing and maintenance of equipment and facilities
  • Organise tours, tournaments and coaching clinics
  • Coordinate the School Inter-House activities and School Sports Awards ceremonies

Leadership & Staffing

  • Recruitment, selection and supervision of all sports staff including Physical Education Department coaches
  • Coach the relevant sporting codes as determined by the school’s needs
  • Oversee trials and team selection

Programme Delivery & Development

  • Deliver coaching and development across sport codes as required
  • Coordinate funding opportunities and sponsorships
  • Plan and manage sports events and clinics, including the 3-IN-1 Festival (Preparatory School Winter Sports Festival)

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • A relevant Education qualification with SACE registration
  • Qualified to teach Physical Education
  • Ability to teach academic subjects will be advantageous

Experience

  • At least three years’ experience in a Management/HOD position would be an advantage
  • Proven track record of exceptional administration

  • Excellent computer skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with staff, pupils, parents and the wider Sports Department
  • Problem-solving, initiative and accountability
  • Methodical and highly organised approach; self-motivated and physically active
