The Edulife Group is advertising for a Bursar to be appointed across multiple campus sites. We are seeking a dedicated, detail‑oriented Bursar to oversee the financial operations at our independent schools in Bloemfontein, Centurion, Welkom and Aliwal North.

Purpose of Role

The Bursar manages the school’s financial operations, ensuring accurate accounting, regulatory compliance and timely reporting. They support financial planning and work closely with senior management to sustain the financial health of each campus.


Key Responsibilities

Administration & Financial Management

  • Oversee financial transactions and accounting processes (bank processing, bank reconciliation, invoicing, supplier invoices, and account statements).
  • Prepare timely financial reports for senior management and support the Financial Manager on planning.
  • Load and process purchase orders, and manage debtor accounts with the debtors’ team.

Debtors & Procurement

  • Manage debtor clerks’ team and ensure effective debt collection and administration.
  • Provide procurement support for the school maintenance team and ensure compliance with policies.

People & Compliance

  • Maintain strong relationships with parents, management and staff to support financial operations.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal policies.
  • Oversee leave loading for maintenance staff and payroll-related processes as required.

Reporting & Collaboration

  • Prepare and deliver accurate financial reports; collaborate with the Financial Manager on financial planning.
  • Support the School Management Team (SMT) and the principal in financial matters.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in finance, accounting or related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a financial position.

Competencies

  • High computer literacy, strong Microsoft Excel skills, and experience in the Xero accounting system.
  • Knowledge of debt collection and financial administration.
  • Strong people skills and the ability to work effectively with parents, management and staff.
  • Accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting; deadline-driven working style.
