Christel House is an international non-profit school with a single mission: to break the cycle of poverty. We offer no-fee scholarships and a 19-year holistic education, supporting students from some of the poorest neighbourhoods. Our Cape Town centre, established in 2002, is the only Christel House centre in Africa and serves twenty communities in Cape Town.

As part of our holistic offering, we combine character development with professional health care, nutritious meals, psychosocial support and family assistance, plus college and careers planning and ongoing alumni support. The Human Resource Manager will help us build a capable, diverse, and thriving workforce aligned to our mission and values. This role reports to the Chief Finance and Operations Officer. About the position: In this role, you will develop and implement a talent management strategy, support leadership, and ensure we have a strong pipeline of skilled professionals. You will help foster a learning culture and a high-trust workplace that values diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being. You will work closely with the leadership team to identify, develop and retain talent and to build organisational capacity across a multicultural environment.

Purpose of Role

The Human Resource Manager will lead the development and execution of a best-fit talent management strategy. They will partner with the leadership team to attract, develop and retain talent, foster an inclusive culture, and build capacity across the organisation to support Christel House’s mission.


Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Design

  • Develop and implement talent management strategies aligned with organisational goals
  • Lead workforce planning, organisational design, and change management initiatives

People & Culture

  • Drive learning and development programs; support performance management and coaching
  • Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and employee well-being

Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure HR processes, policies and systems comply with labour law and best practice
  • Oversee compensation, benefits, and HR information systems

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Post-graduate degree in Human Resources or Organisational Psychology or similar (or NQF equivalent)

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a relevant field; at least 2 years in a management role
  • Knowledge of HR processes, policy development, labour law, organisational design, change management, training and development, and compensation management
  • Experience in education or an NGO is preferred

Competencies

  • Excellent English communication; isiXhosa and/or Afrikaans is advantageous
  • Ability to build capacity in multicultural, diverse teams
