Purpose of Role
The Teaching Assistant supports early childhood development and classroom activities, helping to create a safe, engaging and well-organised learning environment. This role contributes to the social and emotional well-being of the girls and supports the classroom team in delivering high-quality education.
Key Responsibilities
Administration
- Maintain a clean and sanitary teaching environment and manage classroom spaces.
- Assist with general administrative tasks and basic record-keeping under supervision.
Classroom Support
- Support ECD teaching activities and child development programmes.
- Assist with storytelling, crafts, sensory play, puzzles, games, and other engaging learning methods.
- Support socialisation and emotional wellbeing in a safe, inclusive setting.
Health, Safety & Welfare
- Ensure a pleasant, safe environment and assist with cleaning after activities and play areas.
- Adhere to safeguarding policies and vetting procedures as part of safeguarding the children and staff.
Team & Community
- Collaborate with management, staff, parents and children as a positive team member.
- Contribute to a sense of belonging and the community within the school.
- Remain open to continuous learning and feedback to improve practices.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- A suitable professional ECD qualification.
Experience
- Proven track record as an ECD teaching assistant.
- Experience as a childcare teacher; ECD experience is advantageous.
Competencies
- Current criminal clearance, child protection register clearance, and sexual offenders register clearance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Sound administrative and organisational skills.
- High level of computer literacy and understanding of childhood development.
- Energy, enthusiasm and teamwork spirit, with a commitment to inclusion and belonging.
- Willingness to engage fully with the ethos and spirit of Kingsmead and to contribute to the well-being of girls.
