Purpose of Role
The Assistant Principal drives student achievement as an instructional leader. They provide coaching and professional development to classroom teachers, blended learning facilitators, and PE coaches, supporting the Principal in building a high-performing educational team and sustaining SPARK’s culture of rigorous, engaging learning.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership & Development
- Coach instructional staff to achieve goals in individual professional growth plans.
- Design and facilitate weekly professional development for the faculty; organise individual PD opportunities.
- Maintain regular classroom observations and lead review meetings to improve planning and instruction.
- Implement the network’s curriculum, aligned to and extending the South African national curriculum; include online curriculum and Learning Lab tutoring.
Student Achievement & Assessment
- Set high expectations for teaching across content areas.
- Lead assessment and data analysis cycles to pinpoint targeted instruction needs.
- Collaborate with the leadership team on managing instructional staff and conducting evaluations.
People & Policy
- Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of instructional staff.
- Onboard new staff and share network-wide policies with parents, students, staff and community.
- Implement disciplinary policies and contribute to staff development opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 12 Certificate
- B.Ed or PGCE
- SACE registration
Experience
- Experience with primary school-aged children
- At least 2 years of excellent classroom instruction
- Experience leading a team; knowledge of labour laws
Competencies
- Fluency in English; clear criminal record
- Strong collaboration and leadership mindset
- Commitment to a technology-driven, data-informed educational environment
