Purpose of Role
The Grade 00 Locum teacher will create a stimulating early learning environment, supporting children as they prepare for formal schooling. The role requires commitment to future‑focused education and building constructive relationships within the school community.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Delivery
- Keep abreast of future‑focused educational trends in the Pre‑primary phase and incorporate them into teaching.
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated learning aligned with the curriculum, including the use of appropriate learning aids and technology.
- Prepare learning environments that support lessons and deploy classroom support effectively.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in additional school duties, events and offerings.
- Provide tailored materials and individual support to learners and engage in ongoing professional development.
Academic Assessment & Reporting
- Assess and record student progress across academic, social and emotional dimensions, keeping up‑to‑date records.
- Monitor performance using data‑driven decisions and communicate progress to parents and the school community.
- Contribute to moderation discussions and provide feedback throughout the year.
Student Behaviour & Wellbeing
- Establish classroom routines and promote wellbeing for individuals and groups.
- Offer guidance to students and families on educational and social matters affecting wellbeing.
- Identify learners needing additional support and coordinate next steps with relevant staff.
Administration & Brand Ambassadorship
- Support timetabling, budgeting, excursions, and inventory management where applicable.
- Maintain a dynamic learning space and participate in staff and phase meetings.
- Represent the school positively at events and contribute to school communications and newsletters.
Health & Safety
- Supervise children in activities and provide first aid where trained, reporting incidents appropriately.
- Identify and report hazards to maintain a safe learning environment.
Competencies
- Strong planning, organisation and attention to detail; excellent written and verbal communication.
- Professional demeanour and high emotional intelligence; ability to build relationships.
- Time management, critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Minimum & Desired Qualifications
- Post Matric Certificate (NQF 5) in ECD for Grades 0000‑00
- Degree (NQF 6) in ECD or B. Education (Foundation Phase)
- PGCE for certain pre‑primary teacher roles; valid SACE certificate; Police Clearance
- Desired: Degree in ECD or Foundation Phase
Minimum Experience
- 2–5 years teaching experience
