Purpose of Role

The Senior Phase isiXhosa Educator is a content specialist responsible for delivering and co‑delivering isiXhosa in the Senior Phase. The role supports learners’ reading, writing and speaking proficiency and contributes to an integrated, inquiry‑based curriculum that prepares scholars for matriculation and future pathways.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Curriculum

  • Plan for, teach, and co‑teach face‑to‑face and distance lessons; deliver academic and club sessions.
  • Collaborate with grade level and content partners to create rigorous, engaging learning experiences.
  • Deliver and monitor low‑performing support and extend high‑performing learners where needed.
  • Participate in place‑based education and career/tertiary pathways education as required.

Assessment & Data

  • Develop and administer formative and termly assessments; analyse data to support learner growth.
  • Submit and interpret scholar data to identify intervention needs and track progress.

Behaviour & Culture

  • Lead social and emotional development through CQ sessions and reflections.
  • Develop SPARK culture and implement behaviour management strategies; communicate professionally with families and colleagues.
  • Contribute to a high‑achieving environment where scholars feel valued and supported.

Professional Practice

  • Attend professional development sessions and SPARK School events; uphold child protection and health & safety policies.
  • Engage in ongoing professional and personal development; participate in school events and parent meetings as required.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Completed B.Ed or PGCE in IsiXhosa (Home Language or First Additional Language at Senior/FET level).

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years teaching experience; experience with Grade 11 and Grade 12 preferred.
  • Registration with SACE and a clear criminal record.

Competencies

  • Fluent in English and IsiXhosa (spoken and written).
  • Strong collaboration, planning, and data‑driven decision making.
