SPARK Schools is seeking an Electrician to join the SPARK Support Office in Randburg, Gauteng. This role supports our network of 21 primary schools and 5 high schools by ensuring electrical infrastructure across sites is safe, compliant, and operational.

Purpose of Role: The Electrician ensures all electrical systems and equipment across SPARK Schools are installed, maintained, repaired, and compliant with regulations. You will proactively identify risks, perform preventive maintenance, respond to faults, and support school and support office facilities with high-quality workmanship.


Key Responsibilities

Preventive & Reactive Maintenance

  • Plan and carry out preventative electrical maintenance across allocated SPARK sites.
  • Perform reactive repairs and fault finding on electrical systems, circuits, DB boards, plugs, switches, lighting, and appliances.
  • Install, maintain and repair electrical systems in line with South African regulations and standards.

Electrical Upgrades & Compliance

  • Conduct routine inspections to identify hazards, defects, or upgrade needs.
  • Assist with electrical installations for new schools, refurbishments, and operational improvements.
  • Ensure Certificates of Compliance (COCs) and compliance documentation are up to date; maintain safety records and reporting.

Power & Lighting Systems

  • Install and maintain interior and exterior lighting, emergency lighting, and security lighting.
  • Support generators, inverters, solar, and backup power system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor energy usage and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate professionally with school leadership, support staff, service providers, and contractors.
  • Provide practical recommendations to improve electrical infrastructure reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Assist broader facilities and maintenance teams with ad hoc tasks as required.

Minimum Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Qualified Electrician with recognised trade certification
  • Wireman’s Licence (Mandatory)

Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years’ electrical maintenance experience
  • Experience in commercial, educational, or multi-site environments is advantageous

Competencies

  • Knowledge of electrical compliance regulations and health & safety standards
  • Experience with generators, solar, inverters, or backup power systems is advantageous
  • English language fluency; valid driver’s licence; own vehicle
  • Police clearance certificate; Grade 12
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency call-outs and unusual hours
