You can now easily apply for UIF benefits completely online without having to visit any government offices. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to apply for UIF online:

  1. For a successful UIF Online application, you need to Register First

  2. Accept the Terms & Conditions.

    Scroll down to the bottom and check/select YES to accept the terms and conditions.

  3. Activate your UIF account

    To activate your Employee account you need to have the following documents and information available: Your valid 13 Digit South African ID number, Your e-mail address where all correspondence will be emailed, Cell phone number mandatory.

    As an online registered Employee you will be able to securely submit your Application for Benefits (for Unemployment, Reduced Time Benefits, Maternity, Illness and Adoption), to submit Continuation of Benefits and Notice of Appeal.

  4. Enter Username.

    To make it easy, use your email address so that you don’t forget.

  5. Select “Title”

  6. Enter Initials

  7. Full Names

    Full names as it appears on ID

  8. Surname

    Enter your Surname as it appears on ID

  9. Select Type of ID

    South African ID or Passport?

  10. Select “Registration Preferred Contact”

    Here is your preferred method of receiving communication and updates for your application in a form of SMS or e-Mail.

  11. reCaptcha

    Select this box so that the system can recognise you as a real human-being lodging an application.

  12. Click “Register”

You will receive an application reference number. Track your application status online with this number. If approved, your UIF benefits will be directly deposited into your bank account.
