This means you will need to be well-prepared and, crucially, well-rested for an afternoon paper. Getting ready for the challenge

Preparation, habibi, is key. For Arabic SAL P2, you’ve been working on your comprehension, your writing skills, maybe some translation, and certainly your vocabulary and grammar. Exam day essentials: what to bring and how to behave

On the actual exam day, it’s not just about what’s in your head, but also what’s in your bag, ya know? For Arabic SAL P2, and indeed most language papers, you’ll need a few crucial items. Make sure you pack them the night before to avoid any last-minute stress.

Here is a little list to help you, Insha’Allah:

• Your official ID document. This is non-negotiable, you must have it.
• Several black or blue pens. Don’t rely on just one, it might decide to stop working at the worst moment!
• A pencil and an eraser, just in case you need to do some rough work or diagrams that are not part of the final answer.
• A ruler, for drawing lines or underlining if necessary.
• A clear pencil case. This helps the invigilators see what you have, and it speeds up the check-in process.
• A bottle of water. Staying hydrated is important for your concentration. Make sure the label is removed.
• A non-programmable calculator is not usually needed for Arabic SAL P2, but it’s always good to double check your specific exam instructions. For language, it’s almost certainly not required.
• A watch (without any smart features, of course) to keep track of your time. Do not rely on the clock in the exam hall.

Now, about arriving at the exam hall: Aim to be there at least 30 to 45 minutes before the exam starts. This gives you time to find your seat, settle down, use the restroom if needed, and calm your nerves. Rushing in at the last second will only add to your stress. Once inside the hall, listen carefully to all instructions given by the invigilators. Follow them without question, and remember, no talking, no looking at other students’ papers, and no electronic devices are allowed on your person. If you have a phone, it must be switched off and placed where instructed, or ideally, leave it at home. Focus only on your paper, your answers, and the clock. Reminding yourself of the date

To avoid forgetting the date and time, put reminders everywhere! Set an alarm on your phone for a week before, then a day before, and then two hours before. Write it on your calendar, tell your parents or guardians, and stick a note on your mirror. The more reminders you have, the less likely you are to miss this crucial day.
