January 2026 – one-year fixed term post

Orion College is an English medium remedial school in Randpark Ridge that caters to learners with diverse learning needs, neurodiversities and mixed abilities. The school offers three educational streams and therapeutic interventions from a multidisciplinary team.

Orion is looking to employ a highly skilled, experienced and enthusiastic Intermediate Phase teacher to join our team as Grade 7 subject and class teacher. This person will have relevant knowledge and experience working with remedial learners and will be skilled in teaching the Grade 5, 6, and 7 CAPS curricula with particular focus on English and Social Sciences.

This one-year post is available from 1st January 2026 to 31st December 2026

Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant Teaching Degree from a recognised institution
  • Registration with SACE
  • Current Police Clearance
  • Experience teaching the Grade 5, 6 and 7 CAPS curricula.
  • Knowledge and experience teaching Afrikaans and Social Sciences.

Competencies/Skills:

  • Remedial teaching qualification or relevant experience working in a remedial environment.
  • Understanding of GDE ATPs and curriculum
  • Excellent English, Afrikaans and Maths teaching skills (at Intermediate Phase level)
  • High standard of English – speaking and writing
  • Experience in differentiation and offering personalised support to learners
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Passion for remedial teaching. Able to use own initiative and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to deliver a high standard of remedial teaching.
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Computer literate
  • Must be able to work under pressure.

Duties:

  • Class teacher to the Grade 7 class.
  • Teaching Grade 5 to 7 subjects, including English and Social Sciences.
  • Assessment and tracking of learner performance, identifying the need for intervention and support.
  • Attendance and contribution to multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Liaison with parents, therapists and teachers.
  • Participation in extra-curricular activities and any other relevant duties required by the school.
