HEAD OF NETBALL

Contract Period: 1 January 2026 – 31 December 2026

Somerset College is seeking to make use of the services of a hard-working, focused, performance-driven, process-oriented, enthusiastic, creative and experienced Independent Sports Contractor to join our team.

Responsibilities:

• Curriculum and programme design for whole school.
• Develop and continuously update a sport-specific curriculum integrating technical skills, tactical understanding, physical conditioning and psychological resilience.
• Design comprehensive seasonal plans, including training cycles, match schedules and progression benchmarks for all age groups and skill levels.
• Recruit, train, mentor and evaluate coaching staff to ensure alignment with the school’s philosophy and high coaching standards.
• Provide hands-on leadership in coaching sessions and match-day management.
• Facilitate regular coach development workshops and promote collaboration across the coaching team.
• Implement individualised athlete development plans, focusing on skill advancement, fitness, nutrition and mental wellbeing.
• Work closely with medical staff to monitor injuries, rehabilitation and player welfare.
• Support a balanced approach to academic, cultural and sporting commitments, ensuring holistic student development.
• Lead transparent and merit-based team selection processes.
• Engage with parents and guardians to communicate player progress, expectations and team updates.
• Collect, analyse and report performance data, including player statistics, match outcomes and training effectiveness.
• Prepare seasonal and annual reports for the Director of Sport, outlining achievements, challenges and strategic goals.
• The ability to inspire students and staff to achieve their full potential.

Minimum requirements:

• Proven experience in netball coaching and programme management, ideally within a school or academy setting.
• A recognised coaching qualification NSA Coaching Level 2 or above.
• A recognised umpiring qualification NSA Level 1 or above.
• Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
• Hold a valid Police Clearance (not older than 3 month) and comply with child protection policies.
• Be familiar with injury prevention protocols, recovery practices and return-to-play procedures.
