How to Change Your SRD Phone Number Without an Application ID

The SASSA SRD Grant is a crucial social assistance program that provides financial support to South Africa’s most vulnerable citizens. As one of the government’s initiatives to assist individuals and families, the SRD Grant reaches over 18 million people across the country.

Importance of Updating Your Cellphone Number

Several reasons may prompt you to change your cellphone number for your SASSA grant. Here are some common scenarios:

  • Changing mobile network providers (e.g. switching from MTN to Vodacom or from CellC to Telkom)
  • Losing or damaging your previous SIM card or experiencing changes in personal circumstances
  • Misplacing or having your mobile phone stolen
  • Using someone else’s cellphone number during the initial SRD grant application and no longer having access to that person’s number

In any of these situations, it is crucial to update your contact details on the SASSA portal. This ensures that you remain informed of SASSA’s announcements, can check your grant status, and most importantly, receive your grant payments without disruption.

Steps to Change Your Cellphone Number

Visit the SASSA SRD grant contact details page.

Enter your ID number without any spaces.

Provide your Application ID (AppID). If you cannot recall your AppID, refer to the “How to change your SRD phone number without an application ID?” section below.

Click the “Submit” button.

Enter your email address and the new cellphone number you wish to use.

Click the “Submit” button.

Select the reason for changing your cellphone number from the provided options, such as “cellphone stolen or lost,” “used someone else’s mobile number to apply and now cannot get hold of that person,” or “another reason why you no longer have access to the mobile number you applied with.”

An OTP (One-Time Password) will be sent to your new cellphone number. Enter the received OTP.

Click the “Submit” button.

Your contact details have now been successfully updated.

Retrieving Your Application ID

Your Application ID (AppID) is a unique 6-digit identification number assigned to each SRD Grant application. SASSA uses this number for tracking purposes and processing applications. Keep your AppID in a safe place.

However, if you misplace your AppID, follow these steps to retrieve it:

  1. Visit the SASSA SRD grant status check page.
  2. Enter your ID number without any spaces.
  3. Enter the cellphone number you used when applying for the grant (your old cellphone number).
  4. Your Application ID will appear in the first line.

Important Notes Regarding the SRD Grant

  • If you have opted for the cardless ATM withdrawal method, ensure your cellphone number has undergone the RICA (Registration of Identification and Communication) process. This enables you to receive PINs for cash withdrawals on your registered cellphone number.
  • For bank account payments, ensure the bank account is in your name. SASSA refrains from making grant payments to another person’s bank account to prevent fraud.
  • While you can update your contact details by calling the SASSA call center (0800 60 10 11), expect longer wait times.
  • You can only submit one request to update your contact details within a 24-hour period.
