Purpose of Role
The Toddler Montessori Directress leads a peaceful, dynamic classroom for 18 months to 3 years. The role focuses on delivering individualised guidance, maintaining an orderly prepared environment, and building strong relationships with parents to extend Montessori principles into the home. You will mentor assistants and collaborate with administration to support the school’s long-term educational vision.
Key Responsibilities
Environment & Curriculum
- Individualised Guidance: observe and track each child’s development, delivering tailored presentations across Practical Life, Sensorial, early Language and Mathematics.
- Environment Stewardship: manage and maintain the prepared environment, including material selection, design and organisation to maximise independence and engagement.
Classroom Leadership
- Cultivate a peaceful, multi-age community (18 months – 3 years) and support peer mentoring; actively develop social-emotional skills.
Community & Collaboration
- Build strong relationships with parents through open communication, progress reports and practical guidance on Montessori at home.
- Programme Integrity: uphold authentic Montessori philosophy; guide and mentor Assistants; collaborate with administration to support the school’s educational vision.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Formal qualification in Early Childhood Development (ECD) or recognised Montessori qualification (AMI or MACTE).
Experience
- At least two years of proven teaching within a Montessori Preschool (18 months – 3 years) classroom setting.
Competencies
- A nurturing presence; warm and secure classroom atmosphere.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration with the Directress counterpart and the wider school.
- Proactive work ethic and ability to work independently.
- Energetic engagement and positive attitude for a dynamic preschool environment.
- Strong communication with parents and community builders within Maria Montessori House.
- Willingness to learn, grow and receive mentorship.
