About the Opportunity
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Newly Qualified Teacher Intern to join our academic team. This is a full-time, in-person internship designed to bridge the gap between initial teacher training and professional practice, offering a structured year of intensive support, mentorship, and hands-on teaching experience within an Independent Examinations Board (IEB) environment.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate to launch their career, gain invaluable IEB-specific training, and develop into a confident, competent, and impactful educator.

Key Requirements
- Educational Qualification: Must have recently completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) or a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree.
- Registration: Must be a registered member of the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
- Subject Expertise: Proven academic competence and a strong willingness to teach both Afrikaans.
- Work Arrangement: Must be able to commit to a full-time, in-person work schedule.
- Logistics: Must have own reliable transport arrangements to and from the school.
- Technological Competency: Must demonstrate strong technological literacy for integrating digital tools into teaching and administration.
- IEB Focus: While no prior IEB experience is required, the successful candidate must be eager to learn and commit to the rigours of the IEB curriculum and assessment standards.
The Role and Responsibilities
The Teacher Intern will work closely with experienced IEB teachers and the Head of Department to develop their teaching practice. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Co-Teaching & Observation: Observe and assist in Afrikaans classes across various grades. Gradually take on co-teaching responsibilities under the guidance of a mentor.
- Curriculum Mastery: Participate in training sessions focused on the IEB curriculum requirements, annual teaching plans, and assessment protocols for both languages.
- Lesson Preparation: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons in Afrikaans and English, effectively utilising relevant educational technology.
- Assessment & Feedback: Mark and provide constructive feedback on learner assignments, tasks, and examinations in line with IEB moderation standards.
- Professional Development: Actively engage in all provided professional development workshops, mentorship meetings, and school-based training programs.
- Pastoral Care: Assist with supervisory duties, extra-mural activities, and contributing positively to the school’s culture and ethos.
