Eish, nako e tsamaya ka lebelo, isn’t it? That date might seem far away now, but trust me, it will creep up on you quicker than you can say “ditlhahlobo”.

Getting your mind right for the exam

Now that you know the exact date, it’s time to shift your focus to preparation. Gopola, constant revision is your friend. Re a tseba gore go thata, but go ipoeletša go bohlokwa. Don’t leave everything for the last minute. Break down your Sepedi syllabus into manageable chunks. Practice reading comprehension (tlhalošo ya go bala), summary writing (kakaretšo), and language structures (dithulaganyo tša polelo). Find old exam papers, baithuti, and work through them. Sometimes just reading Sepedi newspapers or listening to Sepedi radio helps improve your understanding of the language. Get used to the structure of the paper, what kind of questions they ask, and how much time you have for each section.

The morning of the Sepedi SAL P1 exam

On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, you need to be up early. Don’t be late! Aim to arrive at the exam venue at least 30 to 45 minutes before 09:00. This gives you ample time to find your seat, settle down, calm your nerves, and use the restroom if needed. Rona re a tseba, go tla go be le stress, but go fihla ka nako go tla go thuša go tšhoga fase. Eat a light, healthy breakfast that won’t make you feel sluggish. Avoid anything too heavy or sugary that might give you an energy crash during the exam.

What to take with you to the exam hall

Ga re nagane gore o swanetše go lebala se: What exactly should you carry into the exam venue for your Sepedi Paper 1? Here’s a list to guide you, just like for any paper, but with a special emphasis on being prepared:

  • Your official examination admission letter or timetable (printed out).
  • Your original identity document (ID book or card).
  • Pens with blue or black ink. Bring at least two or three, just in case one gives up on you.
  • Pencils for rough work or diagrams if required (though less common for a language paper).
  • An eraser and a sharpener.
  • A transparent pencil case. This is crucial; examiners want to see what’s inside.
  • A transparent water bottle (no labels please!) to stay hydrated.
  • A small snack like a granola bar or some fruit, but only if allowed and it won’t distract anyone. Check with your invigilator first.

Remember, no cell phones, smartwatches, notes, or any unauthorised materials are allowed in the exam venue. Le se ke la lebala! The consequences are severe, and we don’t want that for you.

How to behave on the exam date

Ga o le ka gare ga holo ya ditlhahlobo, gopola go hlompha melao ka moka. Listen carefully to all instructions given by the invigilators. If you have a question about the paper, raise your hand and wait patiently for assistance. Do not talk to other candidates, whisper, or try to communicate in any way. Keep your eyes on your own paper. Once the exam begins, focus entirely on the questions. Manage your time wisely, making sure you allocate enough time for each section of the Sepedi Paper 1. If you finish early, use the remaining time to review your answers thoroughly. Before you hand in your script, make sure all your details are correctly filled in.

Reminding yourself of the date

To avoid any slip-ups, get creative with your reminders. Write the date (Wednesday, November 5, 2025, 09:00) on a sticky note and put it on your mirror or study desk. Set multiple alarms on your phone or ask a family member to remind you closer to the time. The more you see the date, the more it will sink in, and the better prepared you’ll feel. Re go tshepa, you’ve got this!
