The German International School Johannesburg is an accredited, co-educational, German school abroad with over 1000 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, offering South African and German school-leaving qualifications.

Speech Therapist

Job Description:

To strengthen our educational team, we are seeking an enthusiastic and committed freelance speech therapist (m/f/d) to start immediately, working mainly with preschool and primary school children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosis and therapy of children with language, speech, and communication disorders
  • Focus on prevention and early intervention
  • Close collaboration with teachers, the Head of the Phoenix Centre, school psychologists, and assistants. This includes, for example, joint team discussions, parent meetings, or case conferences for the development and implementation of individual support plans
  • Consultation and training of educational staff to promote an inclusive language environment in the classroom
  • Documentation of therapy progress and preparation of reports

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Completed degree in Speech Therapy / Speech-Language Pathology
  • Registration with the HPCSA
  • Experience working with preschool and primary school children
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Independent, well-organised, and empathetic working style
  • Enjoyment of interdisciplinary collaboration

Important Notice:

This is a freelance position. While the school provides the facilities, fees are paid directly by the parents of the children receiving therapy. The speech therapist is responsible for managing their own billing.
