Purpose of Role

Teaching Assistants play a foundational role in maintaining a positive classroom culture, supporting scholar engagement, and upholding SPARK Schools’ standards for behaviour and well-being. This role provides exposure to instructional practices and assists in delivering the curriculum under the supervision of the Lead Teacher.


Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum Delivery

  • Assist lead teachers with classroom routines, preparation, small group supervision, and creating a conducive learning environment.
  • Support lesson planning, teaching aids, and instructional activities; observe lessons and participate in basic instructional outcomes.
  • Assist with assessments and marking of small tasks or homework; participate in place-based education and enrichment activities.

Collaboration & Planning

  • Assist with marking and data tracking of subject assessments and exams.
  • Support scholars during Personalised Learning time or in learning centres; participate in professional development and coaching sessions.
  • Facilitate Coding and Robotics lessons and monitor scholar progress.

Scholar Supervision & Culture

  • Supervise lunch and breaks; patrol safety and ensure healthy meals are followed.
  • Engage in Character Quotient (CQ) sessions; promote inclusive, value-driven school culture.
  • Uphold SPARK’s behaviour management strategies and professionalism at events and engagements.

Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Adhere to policies on crisis management, child protection, anti-bullying, and health and safety.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, families and stakeholders; attend Saturday school events and parent meetings.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Matric + NQF Level 4/5; in progress to obtain B.Ed
  • Experience: None specified; willingness to learn and grow within the SPARK model
