Purpose of Role

The Educational Psychologist will provide psychological, educational, and social-emotional support to students aged 5–18, their families and College staff. The role strengthens wellbeing, facilitates inclusive education, and contributes to staff and parent partnerships.


Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Intervention

  • Conduct psycho-educational assessments (cognitive, emotional, behavioural and academic).
  • Identify barriers to learning and recommend interventions; provide individual or group counselling.

Support & Consultation

  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists and parents as part of the school-based student support team.
  • Guide classroom accommodations, inclusive practices and behavioural management; refer to external professionals when required.

Crisis & Behavioural Support

  • Assist in managing crisis situations and implement short-term interventions and safety recommendations.

Recordkeeping & Compliance

  • Maintain confidential records in line with HPCSA and POPIA; prepare reports for parents, teachers and external professionals as needed.

Professional Development & Community Engagement

  • Provide support and training to teachers; offer guidance to parents through talks, workshops and newsletters.
  • Support student career development and help learners explore pathways beyond school.

Minimum Requirements

  • High level of professionalism and a positive work ethic.
  • Experience in a school context (preferably co-educational) across all age groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills; excellent counselling and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong communication, report writing and organisational skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the South African CAPS curriculum, inclusive education policies and relevant legislation.

Qualifications & Registration

  • Master’s degree in Educational Psychology from an accredited institution.
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Educational Psychologist.
  • Proof of personal indemnity insurance.
  • Valid police clearance and compliance with child protection legislation.
