Purpose of Role
The Senior Phase English Home Language Educator helps drive student achievement by maintaining high expectations for classroom culture, behaviour, and academic growth. As a content specialist in English language and literacy, you will contribute to an integrated, inquiry-based curriculum and support scholars in matriculation readiness.
Key Responsibilities
Planning & Teaching
- Plan for, teach and co-teach face-to-face and distance lessons, including clubs.
- Collaborate with grade level and content partners to design rigorous learning experiences.
- Deliver high-quality, individualised behaviour and learning plans.
Assessment & Data
- Develop formative and termly assessments; track progress and use data to support growth.
- Submit and analyse scholar data to identify interventions where needed.
Student Wellbeing & Engagement
- Lead social and emotional development sessions (Character Quotient) and reflections.
- Plan and monitor programmes to support low performers and extend high performers.
- Participate in place-based education and career/tertiary pathways activities.
School Culture & Communication
- Develop SPARK culture and implement behaviour management strategies.
- Communicate professionally with colleagues, parents and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to a high‑achieving work environment where scholars feel valued.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Completed B.Ed or PGCE degree in English Home Language
Experience
- Senior or FET Phase (High School) teaching experience
Competencies
- English language fluency
- SAQA / SACE registration
- Clear/criminal record
