English Teacher (Grade 8

Summerhill Private School is an extraordinary multi-faith school situated in Midrand, Gauteng.

We invite suitably qualified candidates, who meet the criteria, to apply to fill this fixed-term post in the College:

English Teacher (Grade 8 – 12)

A full job description will be made available to suitable candidates.

However, the following are amongst the essential requirements for the position:

  • a proven academic record and appropriate experience, including Grade 8 – 12 English teaching;
  • a suitable professional qualification and a minimum 5 years appropriate educational experience;
  • be registered with SACE (and have a valid conditional or provisional registration where applicable);
  • have a clear criminal/sexual offences record;
  • experience in developing learning and teaching material and assessment practices according to IEB requirements and the needs of students, at both GET and FET levels.
  • academic experience in IEB Matric marking would be advantageous;
  • having taught and assessed the CIE curriculum will be an advantage;
  • must have English as a first language;
  • have a passion for teaching and be able to drive curiosity and passion for learning the subjects;
  • be creative, innovative, organised and well-motivated in teaching the subjects required of the grade;
  • be computer literate and prepared to engage with 21st Century teaching methodologies;
  • have an awareness of the nature of the school and committed and willing to contribute and participate in the school ethos and value system, sports and co-curricular programmes and pastoral approach;
  • have proven interpersonal qualities and skills necessary for close co-operation with members of staff, parents, students and other members of the school community;
  • have a proven ability to work collaboratively and energetically within a dynamic organization;
  • be self-motivated, proactive, show initiative, be creative and willing to accept responsibility;
  • be committed to ongoing personal and professional development;
  • possess excellent written and communication skills;
  • adhere to our study methodologies.

Special requirements:

  • Ability to work outside normal working hours of the school to fit in with the requirements.
