Job Description

Estate // Grounds Assistant

Start Date: 01 October 2026

Participates in the daily routine care, cultivation, and upkeep of the school gardens, lawns, plants, and outdoor landscapes. Performs planting, weeding, pruning, hedge trimming, soil preparation, and general garden cleanup to ensure a clean, vibrant, and safe campus environment

The successful applicant will:

  • Plant, water, prune, trim, and maintain flowers, shrubs, trees, and garden beds across the campus.
  • Maintain inventories of garden supplies, including fertilizers, compost, seeds, pots, and hand tools.
  • Operate and care for gardening equipment, such as push mowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, and manual tools.
  • Monitor soil health and apply fertilizers or weed control treatments as needed.
  • Keep garden pathways, courtyards, and grounds neat, clear of weeds, leaves, and general garden waste.

The following qualities and abilities are essential:

  • SA Citizen
  • Grade 12 and at least 1 year of experience directly related to professional gardening or landscaping
  • Driver’s License will be advantageous
  • Sound knowledge of plant care, pruning techniques, and basic garden watering systems
  • Horticulture or specialized gardening training (advantageous)
