Purpose of Role
The Head of Boarding will uphold and enhance safeguarding and wellbeing across the boarding community. They will lead with compassion and clarity, ensuring a safe, well-managed, nurturing and enriching environment where boarders are known, supported, and encouraged to become their best selves.
Key Responsibilities
Safeguarding & Wellbeing
- Champion safeguarding excellence within boarding;
- Maintain robust systems, training, and clear protocols;
- Foster a trusted environment where girls feel heard, respected and protected.
Student Leadership & Management
- Establish clear expectations for behaviour, accountability and mutual respect;
- Support girls through adolescence with empathy and firmness;
- Lead discipline in a fair, consistent, restorative manner;
- Foster belonging, community and personal responsibility among boarders.
Leadership of Boarding
- Shape and deliver a vision for boarding aligned with the school’s ethos;
- Lead and develop a dedicated team of boarding staff;
- Create a dynamic boarding programme that supports holistic development;
- Ensure the smooth day-to-day running of a high-performing residential environment.
Partnership with Families
Build strong, trusted relationships with parents, acting as a key partner in supporting each girl’s journey and wellbeing.
The Ideal Candidate
- Significant experience in boarding, pastoral care or residential student life;
- A deep and demonstrable commitment to safeguarding and child protection;
- Outstanding interpersonal and student management skills;
- Ability to balance warmth and empathy with firmness and professionalism;
- Proven experience in leading and developing teams;
- High emotional intelligence, resilience and sound judgement.
Above all, you will have a genuine passion for working with young women and a commitment to nurturing confident, compassionate and principled individuals.
