Purpose of Role
The Senior Phase Sign Language Educator will act as a content specialist in reading, writing and signing in Sign Language, contributing to a rigorous, integrated curriculum. The role supports matrics-ready learners and collaborates across grade levels to deliver engaging, inclusive education.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Curriculum
- Plan, teach and co-teach face-to-face and distance lessons for academic and club activities.
- Collaborate with grade level and content area partners to develop engaging learning experiences and individualised behaviour and learning plans.
- Deliver and monitor programmes to support low performing scholars or extend high‑performing scholars.
Assessment & Data
- Develop and administer formative and termly assessments; analyse data to track student progress and inform interventions.
- Submit scholar results data as required and monitor progress to achieve proficiency targets.
Student Wellbeing & Culture
- Lead social and emotional development through CQ sessions and reflections.
- Promote SPARK culture and implement effective behaviour management strategies.
- Engage in place-based education and career/tertiary pathways activities as part of student development.
Communication & Professionalism
- Communicate professionally with colleagues, parents and stakeholders; represent SPARK at events.
- Uphold child protection, anti-bullying, health and safety policies; participate in Saturday events and parent meetings.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- English language fluency
- Sign Language fluency/signing
- Completed B.Ed or PGCE in Second Additional Language
- Senior and FET – Sign Language
- SACE registration
Experience
- Experience in senior phase Sign Language teaching or equivalent
