Purpose of Role

The Principal drives student achievement by leading a team of staff to prepare SPARK scholars for university and beyond. You will set a rigorous vision for student achievement and work with the leadership team to uphold high expectations for school culture, student achievement and professional development. You will steer the instructional program and school operations to ensure every scholar is successful and upholds SPARK values.


Key Responsibilities

Instructional Leadership

  • Implement a rigorous instructional programme aligned with SPARK mission and vision.
  • Use data to drive decision-making and instruction.
  • Promote a culture of high achievement, character and love of learning.

School Culture & Behaviour

  • Set ambitious goals and hold staff and students accountable.
  • Manage student behaviour and oversee individualised plans where needed.
  • Support professional development through regular observations and coaching cycles.

Staff Leadership & Development

  • Lead termly staff evaluations to support growth and leadership potential.
  • Foster a high-performing, values-driven work environment.
  • Collaborate with SPARK Support staff to deliver weekly professional development.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with parents, families and the wider community to boost student achievement.
  • Coordinate school-wide events with the leadership team and active parents.
  • Support the onboarding of new staff and assist in budget preparation with the School Operations Manager.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Completed B.Ed or PGCE degree.
  • SACE registration.
  • Fluency in English.

Experience

  • Previous experience managing or working with primary school-aged children.
  • 3–4 years of excellent classroom instruction.
  • Experience leading a team, preferably in a school context.
  • Experience with South African labour laws.
