Purpose of Role

The Foundation Phase English Teacher drives student achievement by maintaining high expectations for classroom culture, behaviour and academic growth. This role focuses on delivering rigorous, engaging learning experiences and supporting the holistic development of scholars.


Key Responsibilities

Planning & Delivery

  • Plan for and deliver lessons; use engaging plans and resources across subjects.
  • Collaborate with grade level and content partners to create rigorous learning experiences and individualised behaviour and learning plans for in-person or online classes.

Student Growth & Assessment

  • Lead weekly SEL circles and implement SPARK SEL curriculum.
  • Administer weekly and termly assessments and analyse data to track student growth.
  • Maintain a focus on helping scholars reach required proficiency ratings and submit results as required.

Professional Practice & Community

  • Attend pre-service and ongoing professional development; communicate professionally with colleagues, parents and stakeholders.
  • Nurture a high-achieving, supportive environment; participate in school events and parent community meetings.
  • Adhere to child protection, anti-bullying and health and safety policies; promote SPARK’s vision and mission.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • B.Ed. degree or PGCE (Foundation Phase). Recently qualified teachers are encouraged to apply.
  • Certification with the South African Council of Educators (SACE).
  • SAQA accreditation for non-South African qualifications if applicable.

Experience

  • Recently qualified teachers or teachers with experience are encouraged to apply.
  • English language fluency required; clear criminal record.
