Purpose of Role

The Foundation Phase teacher drives student achievement by maintaining high expectations for classroom culture, behaviour, and academic growth. They receive ongoing professional development and contribute to a culture of rigorous, engaging learning for our scholars.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver lessons to students across Foundation Phase subjects with engaging resources.
  • Collaborate with grade-level and core subject partners to design rigorous learning experiences and individualised plans where needed.
  • Lead weekly SEL circles and implement SPARK’s Social Emotional Learning curriculum.

Assessment & Data

  • Administer weekly and termly assessments; analyse data to track student growth.
  • Maintain a focus on student achievement and support scholars to meet proficiency targets.
  • Submit student results data when required.

Communication & Professionalism

  • Communicate professionally with colleagues, parents and stakeholders.
  • Attend pre-service and weekly professional development sessions and other training interventions.
  • Adhere to SPARK policies on child protection, anti-bullying, health and safety, and participate in school events and community meetings.

Culture & Environment

  • Foster a high-performing, inclusive environment where all students feel valued and supported.
  • Contribute to a vibrant, technology-driven work culture that encourages collaboration and growth.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • B.Ed. degree or PGCE (Foundation Phase). Recently qualified teachers are encouraged to apply.

Experience

  • Recently qualified teachers or teachers with some experience are welcome to apply.

Competencies

  • Fluency in English.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Commitment to SPARK’s mission and ability to work in a fast-growing, collaborative environment.

  • Compensation: R 20,808.00 per month (cost to company).
