Purpose of Role
Junior Teachers support academic excellence by facilitating small group instruction, reinforcing content mastery, and contributing to classroom routines. They help monitor scholar growth and develop the skills needed to take full ownership of a class as they progress in their teaching careers.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver lessons in-person and via distance learning.
- Facilitate curriculum-aligned lessons, clubs and enrichment activities.
- Engage in place-based education and enrichment activities.
- Deliver project-based learning and use data-driven decisions to personalise teaching.
- Lead coding and robotics lessons where appropriate.
Planning & Collaboration
- Assist with marking and data tracking of assessments and exams.
- Design and implement Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs) with fellow teachers.
- Participate in professional development, mentoring, feedback sessions and instructional coaching.
- Observe lessons as part of professional development and engage in school activities.
Scholar Progress & Culture
- Monitor academic progress and analyse data to inform interventions.
- Support engagement in online programs and intervention activities (e.g., Saturday School, Holiday School).
- Contribute to a positive school culture, uphold SPARK values and CQ standards.
- Promote inclusion and a respectful, diverse school environment.
Professionalism & Stakeholders
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, families and stakeholders.
- Attend school events, parent meetings and required activities.
- Model SPARK’s vision, mission and values in all interactions.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- B.Ed. or PGCE (Foundation Phase). Recently qualified teachers are encouraged to apply.
- SACE registration.
- SAQA accreditation for non-South African qualifications, if applicable.
Experience
- Recent graduates or teachers with experience are welcome to apply.
