COMMENCEMENT DATE: APRIL 2026 (or earlier by mutual agreement)

An opportunity exists for an exceptional Afrikaans Teacher to join Highbury Preparatory School, teaching Afrikaans as a First Additional Language in the Senior Primary and playing a strategic role in its teaching across the phase. The ideal candidate will speak fluent Afrikaans and have a proven track record of inspiring high academic standards and working
Requirements and Professional Attributes:
- Professional qualification and SACE registration.
- At least 5 years’ experience in teaching Afrikaans as a First Additional Language.
- Senior Primary experience would be preferable, with experience in an ISASA school and/or IEB curriculum advantageous.
- First Language Afrikaans speaker.
- Sound knowledge of best practice in education and in teaching Afrikaans in particular.
- Identify with the school’s values and ethos.
- Excellent communication skills—verbal and written.
- Passion for innovation in teaching methodologies and a commitment to continued professional growth.
- Willingness to participate in the extra-mural life of the school and work outside of school hours when necessary.
Key Performance Areas:
- Plan, implement and oversee an Afrikaans curriculum (Grade 4 to 7) that is dynamic, scaffolded, and promotes excellence in the language
- Show initiative in staying up-to-date with the trends in the education and emotional development of young boys.
- Use creative and innovative methods to motivate boys, encourage engagement, and create a purposeful learning environment.
- Exhibit effective administrative ability, including time management, planning and communication.
