Purpose of Role
Teaching Assistants provide foundational support to ensure a positive classroom culture, assist with instruction and learning activities, and help uphold SPARK Schools’ standards for behaviour and learner well‑being.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery
- Assist lead teachers with classroom routines, preparation, small group supervision and learning environment setup.
- Support lesson planning, create teaching aids, and help during instructional activities.
- Observe lessons, support assessments, and assist with marking small tasks or homework.
- Participate in place-based education and curriculum enrichment activities.
Collaboration & Planning
- Assist with marking and data tracking of assessments and exams.
- Support learners during Personalised Learning time or in learning centres.
- Engage in professional development, mentorship and feedback sessions.
- Facilitate Coding and Robotics lessons as required.
Student Progress & Well-being
- Monitor learner progress and ensure Personalised Learning Plans stay on track.
- Supervise lunch, break times, and school patrols; support healthy meals checks.
- Uphold SPARK’s behaviour management strategies and promote a positive culture.
Professionalism & Engagement
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, families and stakeholders.
- Attend school events, parent meetings, and other required activities; model SPARK values.
- Support safety policies, crisis management, and child protection measures.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- Matric + NQF Level 5 with progress towards B.Ed (SP/FET) – Mathematics
Experience
- Experience in a classroom environment preferred
