The Sustainability Institute is seeking a dedicated Teacher / Montessori Guide for 0-3 years to join our Lynedoch Children’s House in Stellenbosch, South Africa. This role reports to the LCH Programme Coordinator and sits at the junior lower end of the salary scale.

Purpose of Role
The 0–3 Guide at Lynedoch Children’s House provides a safe, nurturing, and prepared space for children from birth to three years. The role models positive behaviours, attends to each child’s needs, conducts observations, plans lessons, and implements activities aligned with individual development. You will monitor wellbeing and continuously refresh your knowledge and skills.
Key Responsibilities
Environment
- Prepare and maintain a high-quality learning environment for each child.
- Uphold a 3-hour work cycle to support learning through exploration at the child’s own pace.
- Deliver daily presentations tailored to child needs.
- Keep the environment neat, prepared, and welcoming inside and out.
Observation & Records
- Track and document children’s progress reliably and consistently.
- Conduct daily observations and participate in regular team meetings about children’s needs and progress.
- Produce progress reports twice a year and manage all relevant administration (attendance, notes, reporting).
Communication & Professional Practice
- Maintain open communication with the team and the Programme Coordinator.
- Foster strong relationships with parents, sharing progress and school news.
- Meet with parents as needed and model a positive, professional, and welcoming presence for visitors and partners.
- Represent LCH/SI professionally when hosting visitors.
- Attend staff development activities, conferences, meetings, and workshops.
- Plan and run parent meetings, workshops, fundraising events, and outings.
Non-core Responsibilities
- Keep SI surroundings free of litter.
- Attend necessary staff meetings and host students as part of ilima where required.
Minimum Requirements
Education
- AMI Montessori Certificate and/or Diploma in 0–3 years
- NQF Level 4/5 Early Childhood Development (ECD)
- First Aid Level 1 (Paediatric)
Experience
- Experience working with children in an educational setting
Competencies
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in at least two of Afrikaans, English, and isiXhosa
- Calm, nurturing personality with a love for children
- Flexibility and physical stamina to work on your feet for extended periods
- Passion, adaptability, reliability, creativity, and professional conduct
Remuneration & Benefits
- Salary level: Junior Lower End
